MILA-Y PRODUCT USE & SAFETY DISCLAIMER

Version 1.1Effective 2026-07-27

Important limitations for control, monitoring, automation and maintenance

1. Intended purpose

Mila-Y is designed to add selected connected control, monitoring, automation, and maintenance-support capabilities to compatible cranes, hoists, winches, and related lifting equipment. Available functions depend on the purchased hardware, sensors, software plan, machine configuration, commissioning, user permissions, network conditions, and local requirements.

Mila-Y does not convert unsuitable equipment into equipment approved for a different purpose, capacity, duty, environment, or jurisdiction. It does not itself certify a machine or installation as compliant.

2. Qualified engineering and installation required

Compatibility and integration must be assessed using accurate machine documentation by persons qualified in the applicable electrical, mechanical, control, functional-safety, and lifting-equipment disciplines. Installation, wiring, parameter changes, commissioning, repair, and removal must be performed only by Prowinch or qualified personnel authorized by the equipment owner.

Before energizing or returning equipment to service, the responsible party must verify wiring, grounding, control logic, direction of movement, limits, brakes, overload protection, emergency-stop functions, interlocks, communications, permissions, fail-safe behavior, and all required inspections and tests.

3. Mila-Y is not a substitute for machine safety systems

Unless a specific function has been expressly engineered, validated, documented, and certified for the particular machine and application, Mila-Y must not be used as:

  • the sole or primary emergency-stop function;
  • a replacement for hardwired or safety-rated controls, brakes, guards, travel or hoist limits, overload protection, anti-collision systems, interlocks, or warning devices;
  • the only means of detecting overload, overtravel, collision, overheating, unauthorized access, or another hazardous condition;
  • a substitute for operator judgment, supervision, a spotter, line-of-sight requirements, exclusion zones, lockout/tagout, or emergency procedures; or
  • evidence by itself that equipment is safe, inspected, maintained, certified, or compliant.

Required safety functions must remain effective independently of the Mila-Y cloud service, consumer mobile device, public internet, and non-safety-rated wireless communications.

4. Control functions

Only trained, qualified, and authorized operators may issue equipment commands. Before each operation, the operator must verify the correct machine and control mode, inspect the work area, establish required communications and exclusion zones, confirm the load and rigging, test controls without a load where appropriate, and maintain a safe means to stop movement.

A phone, tablet, or controller may be lost, damaged, discharged, disconnected, delayed, compromised, or affected by notifications and other applications. Mobile devices must be secured, suitably protected for the environment, and used only in accordance with site rules. The operator must stop work if command response is abnormal, delayed, intermittent, or inconsistent.

5. Monitoring, sensors and alerts

Measurements, calculated values, dashboards, trends, and alerts depend on sensor selection, calibration, placement, configuration, sampling, communications, and equipment condition. Values may contain error, delay, gaps, or incorrect associations.

Users must verify critical values through required independent instruments, inspections, and machine safeguards. The absence of an alert does not mean that equipment is safe or free of defects. Receipt of an alert does not replace the duty to stop, isolate, inspect, and correct a hazardous condition.

6. Connectivity, latency and outages

Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular, internet, cloud, GPS, third-party networks, and local power may be interrupted, congested, unavailable, or insecure. Commands, status, alarms, and notifications may be delayed, duplicated, lost, or displayed out of sequence. Safe operation must not depend on uninterrupted connectivity.

The equipment owner must define and test the safe state and recovery procedure for loss of power, communications, application response, sensor input, or cloud access. If the system state is uncertain, movement must stop and the machine must be secured before troubleshooting.

7. Automation

Every saved or repeatable movement must be treated as a new machine operation and validated under controlled conditions before use. Validation must include the complete path, endpoints, speed, acceleration, load, rigging, clearances, obstructions, personnel exposure, limit behavior, stopping performance, and foreseeable faults.

Automation must be revalidated after changes to software, firmware, parameters, equipment, structure, load, rigging, travel path, sensors, network, operating environment, or safety devices. An operator must remain ready and able to stop the operation unless a qualified risk assessment and approved machine design expressly provide otherwise.

8. Maintenance and inspection

Mila-Y maintenance schedules, checklists, runtime counters, condition indicators, and digital records are administrative and diagnostic aids. They do not establish the legally required inspection frequency, determine that equipment is fit for service, or replace manufacturer instructions and examinations by designated, qualified, or competent persons.

The equipment owner is responsible for identifying all applicable OSHA, ASME, EN, ISO, national, local, insurer, manufacturer, and site requirements; assigning qualified personnel; preserving official records; and removing equipment from service when required. If Mila-Y data conflict with a physical inspection or safety device, stop using the equipment and investigate.

9. Alterations, ratings and environments

Do not use Mila-Y to increase rated capacity, speed, duty, travel, lifting height, environmental rating, or other machine limits. Do not install or use Mila-Y in explosive, flammable, corrosive, marine, food-contact, extreme-temperature, outdoor, high-pressure washdown, or other special environments unless the complete installed system is expressly rated and approved for that environment.

Unauthorized changes to hardware, firmware, wiring, antennas, enclosures, sensors, software, configuration, or safety circuits may create hazards, invalidate approvals or warranties, and are prohibited.

10. Cybersecurity and access control

The customer must use unique credentials, strong authentication where available, least-privilege roles, secure networks and devices, timely updates, and prompt removal of inactive users. QR codes, activation credentials, service accounts, and administrative access must be protected.

Suspected unauthorized commands, account compromise, device tampering, malware, or abnormal behavior must be treated as a safety concern. Stop and secure the equipment, preserve relevant logs, follow the incident plan, and contact Prowinch through Mila-Y_Safety@prowinch.com

11. Training and documentation

Marketing materials, demonstrations, and the website are not operating instructions or training. Users must complete required product, equipment, and site training and understand the applicable manuals, warnings, limitations, control modes, emergency procedures, and responsibilities before use.

Where a translation differs from the controlling product documentation, the version designated in the applicable agreement controls to the extent permitted by law. Safety labels and manuals must remain available and legible.

12. Incident and defect reporting

Immediately stop and secure the affected equipment following unexpected movement, loss of control, dropped or shifted load, collision, abnormal brake or limit behavior, suspected overload, electrical fault, sensor discrepancy, cybersecurity event, serious alarm, injury, or property damage. Do not resume operation until the cause is investigated and the equipment is released by authorized qualified personnel.

Report suspected Mila-Y defects or incidents to Mila-Y_Safety@prowinch.com and provide the hardware serial number, machine identification, time, account/site, logs, photographs, configuration, and description without altering evidence, except as necessary to make the scene safe.

13. Responsibility for safe use

The equipment owner and employer remain responsible for the machine, workplace, personnel, risk assessment, installation, commissioning, training, authorization, supervision, inspections, maintenance, regulatory compliance, record retention, and emergency response. The operator remains responsible for following training, warnings, site procedures, and safe operating practices.

No website statement, dashboard status, automated routine, service reminder, remote assistance, or communication from Mila-Y eliminates those responsibilities or authorizes use contrary to law, the machine manufacturer's requirements, or product-specific documentation.

14. Controlling documents and support

This disclaimer supplements the Mila-Y Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policy, quotation, installation and commissioning records, warranty, and product-specific manuals. If there is a conflict concerning safe use, follow the most restrictive applicable safety requirement and contact Prowinch before proceeding.
